Hinam Press
ḥinnām — free as in beer, not as in freedom
Hinam Press is an independent literary imprint, and its name is a translation joke: ḥinnām is Hebrew for free. This is, literally, a free press — in every sense the word will bear: the First Amendment’s, and the price tag’s.
The Hebrew carries a double edge of its own: ḥinnām is the word in sinat ḥinnam, hatred for no reason, and in ahavat ḥinnam, love given without cause or expectation of return. We side with the latter. So when we say free, we mean free of profit: every edition priced at cost, and the ebook free outright wherever we can make it so.
The Stayed Hand
Child Sacrifice and the Making of the Torah
Coming in 2026. The paperback, in all the usual places; the ebook, of course, free.
